China Makeup Market Data Pack June 2021

In recent years, with the growing popularity of the June 18th sales bonanza day in China, many products reach annual peaks in their sales around this time. However, sales are no longer limited to simply just that day. Actually, instead of June 18th, June 1st is now the most popular day for sales.
The COVID-19 pandemic of early 2020 resulted in a surge in interest in the makeup market in China, and this trend has continued into 2021. From our analysis, we noticed that the proportion of lip makeup of all sales continues to decrease while the proportion of eye makeups is slightly higher. This might be the result of the increased incidence of wearing masks. People are more willing to make up the upper face instead of the whole face while they need to wear masks.
Also, we have noticed that long-lasting makeup products have become more popular. The best-selling product (by monthly sales revenue in Taobao) is long-lasting makeup liquid, while the 4th and the 5th products on the list are also both well-known for their durability. We can therefore conclude that in summer, more customers tend to pay more emphasis on the durability of the product – to deal with both the hot weather and the mask.
In today’s sales market, a noticeable up-and-coming brand is Flortte. It burst onto the scene with its unique and quirky package design meeting with the favor of young-generation customers. It has as a result seen considerable success amongst this demographic.
